Today I arose and journeyed to the park bench next to the lake to watch the sunrise. There are actually four benches set out in a large square (approximately a 20-foot square), each bench with two large flower pots at each end. There is a favorite bench I sit on to watch the morning sunrise, and to my amazement, this bench was the only one of the four beautified today with flowers in the pots. What a pleasing delight I thought as the feeling of love emanated from my heart for whoever planted them.
I sat down to meditate and wait upon the sun while observing the birds chirping, dogwalkers walking, insects flying, and the first rays of dawn emerging. Lots of activity at 6:45 I thought. But of course as I settled into a quietude of mind the busyness, movement, and distractions faded away leaving pure simplicity of light. The golden light of dawn. Slowly the sun filtered through the top of the horizon’s trees, first a rounded sliver, then a half globe, and finally a magnificent star rising in its full glory.
The sun. How often we take this being for granted? How often we take and take and take from it without giving thanks, acknowledgement or appreciation?
Gazing through my half closed eyes, the refraction of light on the curvature of my eyes revealed a beam of light directly from the rising sun to my heart. It was as if this luminous orb, this intelligent orb of life-giving energy was acknowledging me. It was acknowledging my presence by sending me my very own light beam. “Thank you sun for your rays of life. For you give and shine freely your life-giving sustenance to all. I appreciate you and all life you shine your light upon. May Creator Source flowing through you enlighten my mind, strengthen my body, and enliven my spirit to become an even greater blessing to others. As always, we are light, we are love, we are One.”
